The plan to expand the Port of Køge

The expansion of the Port of Køge will be a partnering project involving Køge Municipality and Port of Køge as the project owners, Grontmij | Carl Bro a/s as consultants, and Aarsleff a/s as the construction contractor. DKK 950 million have been set aside for the expansion. Income of approximately DKK 440 million is expected from receiving soil from the Greater Copenhagen region, and turnover at Port of Køge is also expected to rise dramatically.

Port of Køge aims to expand capacity from 2 million tonnes in 2006, to 4 million tonnes during the 8-12 year construction period.

The port expansion will be achieved by establishing a landfill site for receiving contaminated soil. A special company, Køge Jorddepot, under Køge Municipality has been created, as private companies are not permitted to receive contaminated soil.

Environmental impact assessments were carried out before the project was approved, and a regional plan has been prepared for the establishment of the landfill site.
