Port of Køge will get an extra 1,200 metres of wharf space, with almost 2 metre’s more depth than the existing wharves (at 8.5 m). The arrangement of the new wharves will allow access for ships up to 200 m LOA and 30 m wide.
Behind the wharves, the port site will be expanded by 40 hectares, and a number of attractive business sites will be established for various types of companies.
In addition to generating more jobs and increasing demand for local suppliers, the expansion will allow for a dramatic increase in goods turnover at Køge Harbour. The large expansion will also pave the way to establishing new ferry routes, for example, for goods ferries to a number of Baltic countries.
The expansion will also make it possible to establish a number of new recreational areas with better beaches, north and south of the harbour.
Finally the entire Søndre Port project will undergo a major urban renewal, creating a new locality, with a mix of residences and businesses, and cultural and leisure facilities.
